All Students! It's 11am at this writing. And, it appears as though the snow storm won't even begin until late this afternoon, perhaps around 4 pm. Thus, today's classes look like they are all okay. This evening's classes, however, are still in limbo. So far, no cancellations. But please keep watching on TV, on the radio, at Kirkwood's main website (http://www.kirkwood.edu) for any further announcements, okay?

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

All Students! Snow day today beginning at 1pm. The 2-hour Business class is cut back to 1 hour. No evening Marketing class. Ughhh!

International Marketing Students! Yup, we're closed here at Kirkwood again! When we get together again on Tuesday night, February 5th, we'll get done what was scheduled for the evening that our first Snow Day messed up (January 22). Then, we'll discuss what actions we might take to catch up (speed up, make-up, scratch, etc.).

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Welcome back to class! A busy, and very expensive Christmas Break, and now we're all back to it. We had a great time, spent too much, ate too much, and we're a little anxious getting back into the routine, eh? Students taking my courses know already that pretty much all of them are in CE6. You can click on the course title or on CE6 on my home page to get there. Once you type in your "k" number and password and find your course, start clicking around and get familiar with it, okay? Those of you that I see in the classroom will discover that my web site picture is at least 15 years and 30 pounds old. Those that I only see online will know that the picture is exactly how I still look today. Let's get on it and have a good time, eh? -Clay

Russia Trip 2008! - Moscow/St. Petersburg
Prof Clay Lifto

1.       Introduction:
In May of 2008, Kirkwood College plans to send another group of students and faculty for a learning experience to the capitals of the great Czars of Russia – Moscow and St. Petersburg.  Students will experience the exotic cuisine, the exuberant hospitality of English-speaking host families, the adventures of riding the Moscow metro and the overnight express train. But particularly we will learn how a company representative might negotiate the labyrinth of foreign travel, through the acquisition of visas, purchasing metro tickets, foraging for food, locating business sites, networking with foreign hosts, exchanging currency, and dealing with the local culture and economy. Additionally, we will gain a new appreciation of Russia through visits of significant cultural and historical sites. Much of the preparation for the journey will be accomplished before the trip by completing the required Spring 2008, 3-credit, online (Internet) course: Perspectives in International Marketing: Russia (MKT-187-CRF01, Syn 080630).

2.       Background:
Professor Clay Lifto has studied the Former Soviet Union for over 40 years. He has lived and travelled extensively throughout Europe, and speaks both German and Russian. Kirkwood’s relationship with Russia is built on years of contacts between the Community Colleges for International Development (CCID) and Moscow State University of Service, an institution of over 115,000 students. Likewise Kirkwood has developed strong, friendly ties with Russian business, such as the National Container Corporation, which is developing the new seaport in St. Petersburg at a cost of over $2 billion.

3.       Itinerary:
Based on our previous journeys to Moscow/St. Petersburg and ongoing scheduling coordination, our itinerary for the journey will be a busy one. This schedule is tentative. We need to be flexible because of the huge size of Moscow (12 million population) and the time it takes to navigate through the city to various sites.

Friday, September 28, 2007

All Students! Looks like I'll be grading right into the weekend this time! Too much birthday celebration obviously. And I went to "3:10 to Yuma" last night.

Hey, here's a cool site to check your beliefs against what candidates are out there. It's pretty easy and pretty quick and pretty interesting, eh?!

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

All Students! A note from the DEX team!

"DECA (Kirkwood's Marketing Club) will be having a bake sale in Lynn Hall on Wednesday September 26th. Among baked goods they will also be selling Walking Tacos. So if you're going to be in Lynn Hall, be sure to stop by and show your support!"

Monday, September 24, 2007

Classroom Business Students! We move on into the next Chapter in class today! In the meantime, it looks like we'll have a little discussion regarding quizzes not completed and an exam not taken (by a choice few). Oh, oh.

Thursday, September 20, 2007

Intro to Business Classroom Students! So, you MUST take the Unit Exam 01 this week. Likely the Testing Center is not open on Saturday (I don't know.). And 16 members of the class STILL have not taken the first Unit Exam 01 yet! How can this be??!!! Please remember that you should not return to the classroom next Monday at noon without having already taken the Unit Exam, okay? Grades thus far are running from 60 (D-) to 92 (A-). -Clay

Friday, September 14, 2007

All Students! It's Friday It's payday, and due to my planned absence next Monday, some of us have an extended weekend, eh?!

Distance Learning Management and Supervision Students have their coursework all graded and updated as of about noon today.

Business Students need to meet "sometime" next week with their Study Group before taking the Unit Exam 01 at the Testing Center. Let me know about any problems, okay?

Classroom Supervision Students have their CE6 stuff delayed (MWF group only) because I want to grade the Project stuff you turned in today. I'll get that last group on Monday afternoon late, when I get back from Indiana.

Time to barbeque!

Thursday, September 6, 2007

Supervision Students! The first Unit Exam 01 is now completed and accessible at any Kirkwood site. The Management Unit Exam 01 should be ready by next Monday afternoon.

Monday evening, even later, September 3, 2007

CE6 Students! We're finally done! Grading and grades are updated!

Monday evening, September 3, 2007

CE6 Students! Sorry, I cannot access some stuff on CE6 this evening. I see some emails, and I did indeed log your Bonus and Chapter discussions. I'm just not allowed to enter any scores until they mess with it on the mainframe. It's so frustrating. I'll get in there tomorrow morning to attack it again. -Clay

Thursday, August 30, 2007

All Students! I'm back at the office. I'm still a bit weak, so take it easy on me! Nonetheless, Ruth told me that if I was going to sit in bed and work on the computer all day, then I might as well go to class. The fever is down. I'm drugged up with antibiotics. The doctor says I'm safe. So, let's do it!

Wednesday morning, August 29, 2007

All Students!

1. Please relax. Due to my absences, we'll adjst the courses and schedules as needed. If you're confused about something - relax. Tomorrow (Thursday) I'll be back in the office early in the morning if you need to stop by or call (398-4916). And if you're in the classroom, we can deal with any issues when we get there, okay? We're pretty smart college folks, eh? We can handle it.

2. Classroom Students! Please get online, get into CE6 using your "k" number and password, and check the Announcements (it's like following a treasure map, eh?). If you can't log in, please try again in NH130 (Computer Lab). The technicians in the blue shirts would love to help you.

3. CE6 Management and Supervision Students! Yes, I've been terribly ill these last several days. Missing class and even a speaking engagement last Sunday. You've rightfully been sending piles of email inquiries. I'll be sitting in bed with my laptop today - adding the gradebook features to Supervision, and responding to each individual email. You deserve that.

4. Amoxicillin (sp?) reigns!

- When your sinuses are so stuffed up you can't breathe,

- when your throat is both raspy and raw from all the coughing,

- when your brains feel like they want to explode,

- when your ears don't work, no matter how much people repeat themselves,

- when your wife has to clarify everything you say because of delirium,

turn to amoxicillin! (and Robotusisin cough syrup and Vicks Vapor Inhaler and Chloraseptic throat lozenges and lots of hot green tea)!!!!

See you Thursday!!!!! -Clay

Tuesday morning, August 28, 2007

All Students! Relapse time. I was up half the night coughing and gagging. Time to hit the clinic. My classes today are cancelled.

However, Supervision and Management Students may want to hit the Internet anyway to work on some of those quizzes, and see what else is now up there on the CE6 board, eh?

Sunday evening, August 26, 2007

All Students! Thanks for being patient wit me this weekend! My temperature peaked at 101 on Saturday. But it looks like I should be back in class Monday morning.

Distance Learning Students! Looks like registration for the course still isn't closed for the Supervision course! I'll do Friday's grading on Monday afternoon. That should catch us up on points. However, I'll also be adding much to the Discussion Board and to the calendar. Plus I should also put up a regular Course Schedule for you so you can chart your progress, okay?

Classroom Business Students! Much stuff has been put up on CE6 for you to review! We'll talk about it Monday, okay?

Friday, August 24, 2007

All Students! This is ridiculous! I'm hobbling around on a fractured 5th metatarsal, my left eye is only now healing up, and I spent the entire night wheezing and coughing with a sore throat! I've really got to retire!

No classes today! I'm staying home! Please keep your eye on the course websites! I might do some stuff in bed today!

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Classroom Supervision Students! Today (Thursday) and Friday we'll be testing out our accessibility to the Internet! That is, we'll review the course content on the Internet, plus we'll head for any computer on campus and log into CE6 and try the first quiz for Chapter 01. Of course, we can re-take it as many times as we'd like for our highest score, so don't worry!

Classroom Management Students! Yup, that's what we'll be doing today (Thursday) and Friday also! If you have a laptop, it would be to your advantage to bring it to class with you! But we'll review the syllabus online, plus access a computer to test out the first quiz on CE6. It'll be fun, eh?

Classroom Business Students! On Friday we'll meet in Linn Hall 110 for the first time. We'll be discussing Bonus Chapter D, Personal Finances.  Then we'll also review the syllabus online.

Distance Learning Students (CE6)! No, I haven't forgotten about you! Friday I'll be spending quite a bit of time reviewing your emails, grading the Discussion Board, and updating the scenery online, okay?

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

All Students! I'm back at the office ... sort of! Yup, that means if you want to or need to see me before class, you might find me here! I'm wandering the halls, seeing old friends, meeting new employees, sharing summer stories, etc. And, I'm kind of preparing for Fall classes, too ... sort of. So, if you're trying to find me, stop by and try your luck! Or, just wait until next Tuesday when everybody on campus is in the panic mode!

CE6/ATAW Students! Ya, I know. You want to start early. Of course, this year I first had to learn how to use CE6 software instead of the WebCT stuff we used to use. Then we have new textbooks this year so I have to re-write everything. Then, I wasn't employed this summer, so I wasn't here. Other than that, it's all ready to go, eh? ... which means, let's hope for next Tuesday ... but keep checking, eh?

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

All Students and Friends! So, here we are, the 4th of July is upon us! I'm not at the office again until the 13th of August. So, to get a hold of me, you've gotta' use the email, whether on WebCT or the other stuff (clifto@kirkwood.edu) . I'll be over in Amsterdam, the Kiev, Donetsk, & Mariopol' (Ukraine) for the next 5 weeks or so, visiting Donetsk University, working with a Kids Camp, and laying on the beach at the Sea of Azov (try to find that one on your Atlas!). Best of wishes to all. I'll be continuing to work/teach the WebCT Management course online from over there. And now we can all have some fun, eh? -Clay

Monday, June 25, 2007

WebCT Folks! For 2 classes, this week is "it" !!!! Yup, Thursday night this week is your last chance to take exams and quizzes, submit written work and term papers. And Friday morning THIS WEEK I'll come in to my office, complete the grading, and submit grades directly into your transcripts!! Cool, eh? Just get online to check your transcript in the afternoon, okay?

Classroom Management and Business Students! Yup, Thursday is your last exam! That means we'll start class leisurely, perhaps a few minutes late to let you check any Review Notes with your comrades before we begin. The exams usually don't take but an hour anyway. I'll grade them on the spot and give you your exam grade and final letter grade for the course, which should appear on your transcript that very afternoon (Thursday)! Exciting stuff, eh?

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Everyone! I'm getting sick and tired of reading the same old news on my website every day! And so says Ruth also! So, this is a new note!

Announcement! Ruth and I are heading for Ukraine July 5th to August 12th. We are arranging for continuing all the same stuff on the summer Management WebCT course, even from the University of Donetsk. What a great experiment, eh?!

Thursday, June 7, 2007

WebCT Students! Yup I'm still alive! And it's time again tomorrow for my weekly cleanup of grading the stuff you've been turning in, plus updating the grade book. Please note also that if your course is due to be completed the evening of June 28th, I'll begin grading the term papers also tomorrow.

Classroom Students! It's a warm day. It's a windy day. It's an exam day. I hope each of you has had an opportunity to hit the books on the Review Notes and also that you got a good night's sleep. Today is the big one, eh?

Tuesday, May 28, 2007

Classroom Students! Yup, now we've hit the groove. It's like after a week or so, we sense the "pattern" of the assignments and the class time. And once we've concentrated on the discipline, it becomes a good habit, of getting the work done, getting a good night's sleep, and walking into class - ready.

Thursday, May 24, 2007

All WebCT Students! The summer session is underway! And for the March starters, that means we're running out of time! I'll be grading your stuff tomorrow morning to get the grade book updated. So, if there's anything more you want me to grade right away, lets get'r in today or tonight, eh?

Classroom Management Students! Just a few notes to those not keeping up. Please notice that we get points for what we produce, and not just for riding in the car. That's actually good news! It means you can look at the grade book, see what's missing, go fill in the blanks, and change your grade! Today in class we'll review scores and find ways to fix them, okay?

Classroom Business Students! Two spare quizzes and two students have used one already! Today our class is in NH 106 again. Don't forget where we're at, okay?! Chapter 20 quiz today, plus we should be ready to turn in our first case!

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Classroom Management Students! Today's agenda!

Discuss Ch 1 Mg'l Roles, 3 levels of Management, 5 Mgt functions, Ex 1.3

Classroom Business Students! In class agenda! NH224 lab today! Bring completed Ch 19 quiz. Begin Disc on Ch 20. Video Ch 20. Select Teams for project. Complete cover sheet, introduction, & outline for project (in class).

Friday, May 18, 2007

WebCT Students! The January starters are done. The March starters are half there. The May starters begin on Monday! If you're new, don't forget to answer that first Discussion Board question, which initializes any financial aid and earns you 10 bonus points if you get it in by the end of next week!

Summer Classroom Students! We really have to cover the territory quickly, beginning Monday morning! So, PLEASE purchase your books before class begins. Check this website to review all the course contents, which are Online for you to check out, and get a jump start on the reading, eh?

Saturday, May 12, 2007

You Guys! Don't forget that tomorrow is Mother's Day! Get a card. Buy some flowers. Make the phone call!

Summer WebCT Management Students! If you're enrolled, you can already access the course on WebCT! Let's get in there and get a head start, eh?!!

Management and Supervision WebCT completers! Monday, even the short extension is over! Any testing, papers, Discussion Board, quizzes - it's all got to be submitted online by Monday night!!!!!!! Tuesday morning, a bit more grading at breakfast, then I'll enter your final grades on your transcripts!!

Monday, May 7, 2007

All WebCT Students! The WebCT software was "on the fritz" Friday, and some work you did will have to be resubmitted. (See the note from Friday below). Please check your grades to see what might be missing. I think pretty much all is restored, so there shouldn't be much of a problem ... EXCEPT  ... the Intro to Management course that is SUPPOSED to be completed by Wednesday night. That one is still messed up. They tell me they are getting it fixed, but I have yet to see it. In the meantime, please note that there will be EXTRA DAYS added to your course (i.e. the Management course ending this week) to make up for the messy delay in IT (Information Technologies)! Hmmm.

Friday, May4, 2007

WebCT Students! The WebCT software isn't working for me this morning! They're trying to fix it, so I can resume grading, etc. But I'll have to continue it from Minnesota. Not a good time for this to happen, eh? Let's keep our eye on it, so it doesn't hurt us finishing the course!

For those finishing their Online (WebCT) course next week, don't forget that the exams must be taken at a Kirkwood site, so bring a picture ID. Note that they'll likely be pretty busy on those last few days, so don't let procrastination kill you. Grades will be on your transcript next Thursday morning, okay?

Wednesday, May 2, 2007

All Students! I'm being deluged with last-minute late papers, other written assignments, and special requests at the end of the term. Nothing new, but it still tends to bog down the system. No, I won't grade your term paper while you stand there. No, I don't give extensions (we have a re-enrollment program to take care of that). No, I can't come outside to help you with your jumper cables. No, you can't have a special appointment to take your final exam. I sound like an ogre, but a mature adult doesn't make someone else pay for their sins! And, no, I won't demonstrate the Clay Sh ... Aiken dance for anyone. It's on the web, and you have to have the patience for it to download.

WebCT Students! I'm going to give it a shot, and grade your stuff tomorrow.

Thursday, April 26, 2007

Yup, there's a new look on the website. Note that there are a few games down below that you can click on to play. Also, I added a couple of videos. The 1st one takes a while to download for the software QuickTime.

Classroom Business Students! The MWF class's term papers are already graded. The MWF class will be collected today.

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Hey, Everybody! Can you tell that I'm getting tired? April means too many meetings, too many term papers to grade, too many students with registration problems, too many forms to fill out and reports to write, too many new texts to review, and then it rains.

Classroom Business Students! Yup, today and Thursday I'm pretty satisfied just that you've got your team projects done and turned in. It's nice that next week all we have is Chapter 16 and that big Review Notes on the board thing, eh?

Classroom Management! Just a few "cleanup" days left, then next week the scary preparation for "da' bomb" - the Final Exam. Please check your gradebook scores to ensure that anything that needs to get turned in for points is in the record. Likewise, there's one group that gave their oral presentation, looked at the scoring sheet I filled out for them, then made off with it. So, no grade on record! Yikes!

WebCT January Starters - Management and Supervision! Please remember that the Paper needs to be uploaded into the Drop Box. Someone turned their's in physically, but I can't enter a score for them. Bad form. Final grades will be submitted Thursday morning, May 10, so everything's got to be in my hands by that Wednesday night so I can grade it.

Perspectives Students! Thank you so much for our meeting Tuesday. Darrel is faithfully grading the journals, the reports, and the orals. Trent is still trying to get caught up on the Discussion Board. Lydia and Amanda are still working on turning in their pictures. And I'm requesting a copy of your Power Point presentation data files for the future. They were so well done that we might like you to come to a future faculty/staff event to present them again.

International Marketing Students! Please note that next Tuesday night's meeting could run a bit long in order for us to finish it all. Please be ready to get right to the agenda, and also be ready to stay the full time. But this extra diligence will pay off for us by shortening up our Final Exam night, right?

Friday, April 20, 2007

Ahhh, weekend! Still, it's a long way to payday at the end of the month, eh? My 24-horse, macho mower just got hauled away to the repair shop. Which means I've got to use the Clay-horse push mower for a few weeks. And 78 degrees for Saturday.

Classroom Business Students! Don't forget that your Team Project is due in the middle of next week!

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Friday, April 13, 2007

Classroom Management Students! A great start on the Orals already this week! Because of the bonus points, most scored over 100% even with points off. We'll still try to clear Ch 18 this week &i maybe 2 Ch's next week, okay?

Classroom Business Students! The TR class will clear Ch 12 this week. The MWF class will have Ch 12 quiz Wednesday and the Unit Test Review session this Friday. The project is due 2 weeks from now.

Perspectives Students! So, where are those pictures ... (I got Michelle's note), Amanda?, Lydia?, Pam?, Trent?, Jane?, Jennifer?

WebCT Students, including Perspectives Students! Grading update is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday).

Monday, April 9, 2007

Welcome back! Nice break, eh? I ate enough sweet potatoes, in so many formats, at so many houses this weekend! Then a weight-in at the doctor's office this morning! Oh, oh!

Classroom Business Students! Yup. We're behind by one chapter. We'll just get through Ch's 11 & 12 this week. The MWF class will have Q12 on Wed, with the Unit Test Rvw on Friday. The TR class will have Q11 & 12 this week, the Review next Tues & the test on Thurs next week ... and still be a chapter behind schedule. We'll get there.

International Marketing Students! Unit Test tomorrow (Tues) night! But we still have time for a few videos & cases as scheduled. I do believe that we're completely on schedule!

Friday, April 6, 2007

Hey, All! I'm sitting here in a motel room in Sioux Falls, getting ready to watch the movie Norbit. I'm glad I was able to get WebCT grading done before Ruth and I took off for Minnesota Thursday afternoon, then here to South Dakota today and tomorrow.

Perspectives Students! PLEASE bring in your pictures Monday, so we can get them onto the G:shared drive. Tuesday I already have to give the first report, and I have only Leah's (although they are pretty good).

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

All Students! I'm back! And right away on Monday at about 9:00am, y wife called with a medical emergency. She's much better today after a bad reaction to a shot yesterday. So, we're even a bit more behind, eh?

Classroom Business Students! Chapter 9 & 10 quizzes this week. Looks like we copped out. But we'll catch up soon, eh? We'll sell our stock this week and work on completing the paper to turn in a few weeks hence, okay?

More later today ...

Wednesday, March 21, 2007

All Students! I'm off to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia after the 1st hour of class tomorrow morning (Thursday). If you need to pull my chain for anything, it's getting late, eh? I just reviewed the WebCT emails and did what I could to help you through during this next week. Likewise, we have great substitutes lined up for the classroom while I'm gone. Please help the subs out a bit, okay? Explain to them what needs to be done each day, and how we usually proceed. Of course, they may see things a bit differently and want to do things their way. But even that should be an interesting and refreshing experience that you can tell me about when I return to class on April 2nd. Do well! I'll take pictures! -Clay

Monday, March 19, 2007

I'm back! And I'm far behind. Looks like I'll be sticking around here for a few extra hours this afternoon.

Classroom Business Students! Your substitute for March 22-March 30 will be Marilee Feldman. Please tell her how hard I make you work, and how wonderful an instructor I am, okay? Maybe she'll believe you, maybe not. But she'll be warned off about any shenanigans! I'll log in the quizzes, cases, and Unit Test scores when I get back April 2, okay?

Classroom Management Students! Lori Merlak will be subbing for me in the Management classes next week, March 26-29. She'll be covering Chapters 15 & 16. Please make sure you bring along your Exercise Manuel. And check the Final Exam Review Notes on those chapters to ensure that if you have questions on those issues, that they're covered, okay? She'll collect your written work, but I'll be grading it when I get back.

Thursday, March 8, 2007

March WebCT Completers! A few students noted that I erred in last Friday's message regarding the added day to get the course completed. Though I corrected the error later, I'll honor the work completed by those who were "deceived" by my date error.

Perspectives Students! Today is the meeting day! Bring your questions and complaints! And I'll ask Darrel to handle them because he's been to Russia, and he's smarter than me about that stuff.

WebCT March Starters! Emails are flooding in ... except for t a few of you, eh? To get any financial aid, I need you to log in to the course on WebCT, and send an email through that venue, okay?

Review before Unit Test

Monday, March 5, 2007

WebCT Students! Yikes! For those scheduled to start today, I haven't updated the online materials adequately! Friday snow day kept me from the office, so please have patience with me today as I quickly update the course calendars and make other important adjustments to your courses!

Friday, March 2, 2007

All Students! Yup, Kirkwood is closed once again!

Classroom Business Students! The MWF group will have your Unit 2 Exam next Monday, March 5th. Quiz 5 on Wednesday. Quiz 6 on Friday.

New March Starters on WebCT. Your course begins on schedule next Monday. But some of the stuff, like the course schedule will be wrong until I fix it next week. Please bear with me, since I also am not in the office to fix things.

WebCT March completers! Yes, I'll add yet another day to your completion date. Now you have until the evening of March 6th to complete the course. I'll submit final grades Wednesday morning. If we're closed Saturday, I'll add yet more time, okay?

Monday, February 26, 2007

All Students! Ya', sure! By now everybody knows that Kirkwood is closed today. Of course, what's going to be on your mind is what is going to be scheduled to make up for lost time.

Classroom Business Students! The Tues/Thurs gang has no problem, eh? Review on Tuesday and test on Friday. Quiz 5 next Tuesday, March 6. MWF students will have a similar schedule. Review on Wednesday and test on Friday. Chapter 5 quiz next Monday, March 5.

Classroom Management Students! We're still having our Review for the Midterm this week. For the TR class it will be Thursday this week. We'll mess with Ch 13 and the Team Project tomorrow (Tuesday). For the MW class it's a messier deal, eh? We really NEED to get that Review in this week. So, let's do that on Wednesday and work in the Team Project stuff next Monday, okay? The Midterm Exam will be your last session before Spring Break.

WebCT Students! It looks as though we may have lost a day or two on WebCT because the storm shut down our computer system. What I'd like to do is add those days on to the end of the course. Thus, instead of Thursday evening being your last shot to get everything in (for those courses ending March 2nd), we'll make Monday evening. Thus, on Tuesday morning, March 6th, I'll be submitting final grades instead of Friday morning March 2nd.

Wednesday, February 21, 2007

WebCT Students! March 2nd marks the end of the October starting sections, and the following Monday marks the beginning of the next late-Spring group beginning! Note that Final Grades will be posted on March 2nd. So, please make sure all your exams and papers are completed by the end of the day before that!

Perspectives Students! Friday we should be done with the Discussion Board items. 20 points for each discussion topic for a max of 200 points (20% of your grade). Some of us need to get going, eh?!

Monday, February 19, 2007

Current events discussion         2-6
            2-7

Thursday, February 15, 2007

Classroom Management Students! Don't forget that at the beginning of class next week, I'll be asking for your Team's Chaos Corp organizational charts! Bonus points will be awarded to the Top 5 groups, which will count against the Midterm Exam.

Classroom Business Students! After the snow day on Tuesday, I'll be quite happy to get Quiz 2 and the Video completed this week.

Perspectives Class! I'm glad to see that a few of you have hit the Discussion Board! I'll likely mess with the Course Schedule a bit on Friday to add specificity. Likewise, I'd like to calculate points per Discussion Board question to help you recognize how well you're doing on it thus far, eh?

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

All Students! SCHOOL IS CLOSED TODAY BEGINNING AT 10:00AM !!!

All assignments are postponed until our next meeting, when we'll negotiate the catch-up schedule, okay?

Fire up the snow blower!!!

Friday morning, February 9, 2007

All Students! Hey, I'm not on campus today. Ruth is having an operation, and I'm playing nurse! Like my outfit?

WebCT Perspectives Students! Note that the Discussion Board items are completed! Please don't harass me about spelling errors and typos. And no, I wasn't drunk at the time!

Classroom Business Students! No class today at 10am. We announced it long ago in class, and it's on the Course Schedule. But there's always that one or two students, who show up at the office, wondering what's going on, eh?

Will the Hawks win at Wisconsin Saturday?

Tuesday evening, February 6, 2007

WebCT Students! I was inundated with student issues today regarding exams and the snow. But by the end of the day tomorrow, we should all be dug out, eh? I hope all the WebCT grading and updates should be accomplished by the end of the day Wednesday.

Classroom Business Students! The exam was yesterday and today. And the scores didn't look good! Good thing we had those bonus points, eh? And those of you who missed the exam for whatever reason need to see me as soon as you return to school. Don't be waiting for class time. Stop by the office earlier if you can, okay? You can make up the exam without penalty. I'm in a good mood!

Monday, February 5, 2007

It's been awhile, hasn't it? It's like we've been holding our breath for the Bears. Well, time to give that up, eh?

Classroom Business Students! Remember that the first Unit Test is today and Tuesday! Come to class early for a quicker start, okay? MWF students need to remember that there's no class on Friday this week.

Classroom Management Students! I hope you enjoy your free Exercise Manual. You might read before class this week, the Chapter 6 Exercise about the Kidney transplant. Someday it might be you!

Perspectives Students! Shall we make Tuesday the weekly "update" day? That is, any questions to be answered, any points to be awarded, any issues to be resolved - we'll take care of it each Tuesday - specifically at 11am, okay - on WebCT? That way you can even hit me in the Chat Room during that hour! Oh, boy!

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Classroom Management Students! Please note that I brought in a "freebee" for each student in the classroom this morning, i.e. an Exercise Manual. Now I won't have to run copies for you anymore! Houghton-Mifflin Publishing Company is providing them to you for free.

MWF Intro to Business Students! Note that our room assignment for Friday this week - Feb 2 - is changed due to a scheduling conflict. Our class will be held in Linn Hall 111 this Friday at 10am!

WebCT Students! Tomorrow (Wednesday) looks like a clear day for an Update! So, whatever you put into the bucket until I get to it tomorrow mid-morning, I should be able to get graded, okay?

Perspectives Students! Yup, tomorrow I'll be updating your stuff, too! That means you need to get onto the Discussion Board! And I'll be cleaning up the discussion questions further down the list as well, okay?!

Monday, January 29, 2007

Classroom Business Students! Please note the revisions to this week's and next weeks' schedule! We'll not get the fist Unit Test done until early next week. MWF students should note that Friday, Feb 9th, the class session is cancelled.

Friday, January 26, 2007

It's Friday! Incredible ... we made it through the week.

Classroom Business Students! Please note the modifications on the Course Schedule. I had to do some fixing. Note also that on Tues/Wed next week, we'll be working on the Team Project. Please, before you come to class that day, check the stock market and pick some stocks to start with. That way, in class your group will be able to move along much more quickly, okay?

Monday, January 22, 2007

Wow, a LOT of students are still trying to register for our courses! Looks like procrastination has REALLY set in! Anyway, another two today. Now let's see whether they can catch up, eh?

Who besides me is exhausted from Sunday football!? Both games were great. And the right teams won. It's a Midwest Superbowl with Chicago and Indianapolis. But I'm pretty sleepy this morning!

Classroom Business Students! We're trying hard to get caught up with the schedule. On Monday and Tuesday this week, we're trying to get everyone signed up for their Team Project. I'm bringing a sign-up sheet to class for it. Make sure you've got each other's name, phone number, and email address! Will it be possible to get through Chapter 22 this week. I wonder.

Classroom International Marketing Students! Tomorrow night! Hey, we're grading the quizzes for the first 2 chapters, we have 4 more videos, and Team 1 is presenting the Cases 1-1 on Starbucks! Plus, we'll address current issues from your news sources and add a little lecturing. Hey, don't miss it!

Classroom Management Students! And we're roaring along through Chapters 2 & 4 this week! Would you believe that several students haven't completed a single online quiz for the course yet? And then there are the cases/articles. For the cases, the trick is to do one, see how well you did, and find out what needs to be fixed. And then do good/better ones in the future for more points. Hey, let's get with it.

WebCT Students! The October gang, though a smaller group, is finished in only 6 more weeks! Some folks really need to rock! And some are already about done with the whole thing. Oh, well. And the January gang has seemed to take off like an explosion. Remember that if you haven't given your personal info on the Discussion Board, this Wednesday (my weekly grading day) will be the end of the Bonus points. You can take the quizzes as many times as you'd like to. I only take the highest score. The Management students MUST take the pre-test BEFORE you can take Quiz 1, Quiz 2, etc.

Wednesday, January 17, 2007

Yikes, it's Wednesday already! that means we're all back in class! And for you classroom students, please check my note below from last Friday for an update on what's going on, eh?

And for you WebCT'rs, today I'll be grading the Discussion Board and posting the grades for that.

And for the Perspectives group on WebCT, traveling to Moscow/St. Petersburg with Darrell and me, we'll be meeting next Tuesday at 11am in NH121 for about 1/2 hour to quickly go over course requirements before finalizing the WebCT materials. We'll also go over the trip budget! Good news - our visas are due back to us tomorrow! You can bet I'll be getting down there to see if anybody got turned down, eh?!

Friday, January 12, 2007

I'm so-o-o-o sorry! This morning I was up at 5:30am sick. I went back to bed. Ruth woke me for a few moments to call in to the office. Then she didn't nudge me until 9:30. Ohhhhhh, my stomach feels like a rock, and my head hurts. A few hours more, a hot shower and shave. A bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit brought in from Hardees, and I'm feeling a little better. Maybe by Sunday I'll feel like shoveling the snow. Anyway, I'm sorry I couldn't communicate with you students in advance. I hope you didn't get out of bed this morning all for nothing!

WebCT Students! Big deal, right?! You don't come to class anyway, and the schedule continues to march along. The benefits of going to school electronically!

Classroom Management Students! You might check the schedule online. There you'll see that we continue to march with Chapter 1 next week. After all, there's the Student Recess Days, and we only meet once. However, your first quiz and your first case will be due when we meet next week, okay?!

Classroom Business Students! We missed a video, grading a quiz, and locking in the members of each Project Team. When we meet next week, we'll make adjustments to that schedule. However, be ready to grade the quiz for Chapter 19, okay?

Classroom International Marketing Students! I know, I know. None of this affects you! We only meet Tuesday nights anyway. However, since you do have the phone numbers and email addresses of your team, you could still make progress, not only on the quizzes we'll be grading in class the next time we meet, but you could also figure out how you're going to share the work on some of those classroom case presentations that tend to sneak up on us when they're due!

Thursday, January 9, 2007

Okay we're all started now! And we already have a couple days off! Don't forget to stay home and sleep in on Monday and Tuesday. The school is pretty much closed on those days - Student Recess Days!

Classroom Management Students! Got that first Chapter read? And the first Quiz done online? And the first case written? Check the schedule for them, okay? If there are questions on how to do them, now's the time to find out!

Classroom Business Students! Chapter 19 Quiz this week (Thurs/Fri)! We'll also get our first video, so we can begin the writeups. And this week we have to pick our team mates for the Project!

Monday, January 8, 2007

Welcome back to school everyone! On my Christmas Break I only gained 8 pounds on my diet! So, don't offer me any donuts, okay? ... at least for the first week of class.

I don't like it when I come to the first class session, and several students don't have their textbook yet. Not good! We get rolling right away so we have some flexibility later one.

All WebCT Students! You need to send me an email in order to get your financial aid. But that means you have to log on to WebCT and use THAT email (i.e. the email within the WebCT program.

Friday, December 15, 2006

All Classroom Students! Your grades are all in! Clyde and the Business (Testing Center) guy, I sent in Grade Change forms for you. For each of you, the Minus ( - ) changes to a plus ( + ). If there are any further issues we need to pursue, please send me an email. I'll take a look at it when I hit North Carolina, perhaps next Wednesday, okay? Otherwise, see me after January 8th.

WebCT December Finisher! All that are completed with the course, I submitted grades for. I'm sorting through a few students yet who never paid their tuition, that withdrew and I didn't know it, or some other kind of administrative issue. Other that that, your grade should show up online in your transcript already!

WebCT March Completers! Yup, we're on Break! But for a lot of us, it's a great time to get caught up, eh?! For others you might want to go ahead and finish it off!

Prediction: The Vikings will sweep, earn a wild card playoff spot, win the NFC Title, and beat San Diego at the Super Bowl ... well, maybe not.

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

WebCT Students who are supposed to be completed by this Friday! All your stuff has been graded and posted through this morning! Some of us still need to scramble to rack up enough points for a decent grade. It's gotta' be done by Thursday night (or incredibly early Friday morning) in order for me to grade it Friday morning and post your grades before Christmas Break!

WebCT Students who aren't done until March 2007! We're on Break as of Friday afternoon. But I've done the last of my Discussion Board grading and posting already, unless you send me an email because of some need for me to go in and update your grade before Break is over. I'll be checking WebCT emails maybe a couple of times over Break to answer questions, as you continue to submit stuff over the Break, okay?

Classroom Supervision and Management Students! Remember that I'll start your exams at least 15 minutes early! (maybe even earlier than that!) But it's first-come-first-serve for copies of the exams and seat space in the room. If the room is full or I'm out of test copies, you'll just need to wait a few minutes for another student to finish, okay? Don't forget that the door closes at 15 minutes after the hour, after which you can wait until January to do your exam.

Monday, December 11, 2006

WebCT Students! If your course ends December 15th, please note!!!:::

Your term paper and last exam should be completed/turned in by Thursday (December 14th) evening this week! I'm turning in grades on Friday! The biggest issue on papers seems to be the length of the papers - usually too short. Please review the requirements before submitting it, okay?

All WebCT Students! I'll be doing a grading update again tomorrow (Tuesday), and another one on Friday, so I can clear the students completing this week.

Classroom Business Students! Your final exam is today! See you at High Noon - or earlier, eh?!!

Classroom Management Students! Please remember that you have 2 shots at your final exam - either tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon in Linn Hall 110, or on Friday morning at 8:00am in Nielsen Hall 221.

Classroom Supervision Students! Remember that there is no class today for us. But you can choose whether to attend either the Wednesday final exam at 10:00am or the Friday exam at 11:00am

Tuesday, December 6, 2006

August-Starting WebCT Students! Hey, we're running out of time! Gotta' get'r done, and quickly, eh? No extensions on either WebCT Supervision or Management courses. On the morning of Friday, Dec 15th, I'll be submitting grades!

October-Starting WebCT Students! You MAY continue working on your course during Winter Break! However, Ill be in North Carolina during that time, and likely not available to grade your stuff or answer emails. That shouldn't stop you from getting the quizzes done or submitting written work though, eh?L

TR Classroom Management Students! Today we'll go over the EOQ problem and discuss Ch 22. Thursday is Review Notes day!

Friday, December 1, 2006

I seem to be getting lazy toward the end of the semester, at least as it regards putting new notes on this page. But my work is just about done. It's pretty much up to you now, isn't it? Let's get'r done.

For Classroom Supervision and Management Students! Note that you can take your final exam at either your classes schedule location and time, or at the other section's location and time. You don't need to see me ahead of time on this. If you miss your exam, you might be waiting until January 8th to make it up, eh?

Tuesday, Novemeber 28, 2006 (early note)

Classroom Business Students! Since the Internet was down yesterday and several students couldn't download the quiz, we showed 2 videos yesterday for Ch's 13 & 14, the case for which are due on Friday. This Wednesday we'll be grading Ch 14 Quiz. Quiz 15 is due Friday. This Wednesday we'll also have the last chance to work with our team to complete the Team Project, which is now due on Friday.

2nd note, Monday, November 27, 2006

Classroom Business Students! Today = video + Quiz 14. Wed = Turn in project!

Monday, November 27, 2006

Oh, Oh, Monday! And we forgot to do all that homework stuff that we promised ourselves we would do to get caught up!

Classroom Management and Supervision Students! I'm not quite done grading all the term papers you submitted last week. Several of you turned in 3-ring notebooks. I hate 3-ring notebooks! I can't get them into my brief case. So, they sat on my desk over the break ... about 20 of them. The rest I graded.

Classroom Business Students! A quiz, and some last-minute work on the Team Project before we turn it in on Wednesday, eh?

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Just a brief note to wish all you students and others online a Happy Thanksgiving. This semester is just about over, and I can already see how well you have done this fall. Learning is a discipline, isn't it? You've gotta' want it. And it's up to you to do it. And you've done well.

So, let's eat too much, sleep too much, watch too much football, call our moms, and express our thanks to each person who has had a positive influence on our life. Ahhh, life is good. -Clay

Monday, November 20, 2006

Classroom Business Students! Quiz 13 due today. Case  8 due today. Your team needs to sell off all your stock for the Project today (paper due 11/29). You need to be here!

Classroom Supervision Students! Your Essay Project is due today. Those who submitted it already need not attend class. The class time is for those who haven't finished the paper.

All WebCT Students! Lots of pressure over the weekend. I had to play the violin for a 50th church anniversary celebration, and I was scared witless. Anyway, I didn't get to a lot of your emails. Let me see if I can get to them today. Grading will be tomorrow morning as usual, of the Discussion Board

Classroom Management Students! Don't forget that when you've completed your notes on 6 presentations on the form I provided to you, then you can turn it in for 5 bonus points. There is a 1-point penalty for each day the paper is late! Get'r done, eh?!

Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Payday! Why is it that after the bills are paid and we go grocery shopping, there's hardly anything left for the next two weeks?! Ever feel like a slave to the bank?

Classroom Intro to Management Students! The first round of orals was this morning. They suffered through the criticism. But afterward, because of the Pwr Pt bonus and the early bonus, they still all scored above the 100% line. So, it pays to volunteer to go early, eh?

Classroom Business Students! Another video today. Then the review for the Unit Test, scheduled for Friday. Don't forget that the cases for Ch's 11 & 12 (Case #8) isn't due until Monday. Monday we'll close out the stock on the team project. And Monday we'll grade Quiz 13, eh?

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

All Students! Don't forget to stop by the Career/Job Fair on the 1st Floor of Iowa Hall (11am-1pm) today. You've gotta' sign in on one of my sheets to get the 10 points bonus. The free pizza, they tell me, is through the offices toward the back area of Student Services.

WebCT Students! I'm just getting to the Discussion Board grading. Because of classes, etc., I might not finish it all until mid afternoon though.

T/Th Management Students! Chapter 19 discussion today. Then the last chance in the classroom to get prep'd for the orals, which begin Thursday.

Monday, November 13, 2006

All Students! This week is National Career Week! And tomorrow (Tuesday) in Iowa Hall there is a Career Fair. 10 bonus points for finding my sign-in sheet and actually signing it. Free pizza (doesn't it sound like they're desperate for participants ... or is it just because they're so nice). Bring a resume if you might want an interview. Iowa Hall Student Services (1st floor), 11am-1pm. See you there?!

Classroom Business Students! Today we'll grade Chapter 12 quiz. Maybe we'll have time for the Chapter 11 video also. We'll have our Review Notes day on Wednesday, and include whatever videos we're behind on. The video reports (and/or other Cases) are due Friday this week. Unit Test on Friday.

Classroom Management Students! Orals begin this week! If you're not delivering an oral presentation, there's still a form for you to fill out as a part of the audience. It's easy, but you need to be here, okay?

Classroom Supervision Students! Chapter 15 quiz today!

Friday, November 10, 2006

Remember, I'm not at Kirkwood or in class today! However, you each have an alternate assignment. Please review the Wednesday, November 8 notes below!!!

And, next Tuesday, November 14, bonus 10 points for visiting the Job Fair at Iowa Hall. It runs something like 10-noon or 11-1pm. I'll check the times again on Monday. There'll be a sign in sheet for you to get credit. (Oh, and I'll be there.)

Wednesday, November 8, 2006

WebCT Discussion Board stuff was graded yesterday. I'll get to it again next Tuesday, although I'll be checking the emails, of course.

TR Classroom Management! Tomorrow (Thursday) we'll be reviewing Ch 18. Bring along Ex 18.3, okay?

MWF Classroom Management Class! Remember that this Friday I won't be in class. However you can get credit for being there by signing in on Friday and working with your Team on the Project.

MWF Supervision Class! Friday you should be making progress on the Essay Project, even though we don't have class. Next quiz on Monday.

MWF Business Class! Friday you should be working with your Team on the Stock Market Project, even though there is no class meeting. Quiz 12 on Monday.

Monday, November 6, 2006

The Vikings lost. The Bears lost. The Hawks lost. The Pirates lost. Tiger didn't play. I think I might give up even watching sports. My, how fickle we can be, eh?

Classroom Supervision Students! Today we'll have the next quiz. But we'll spend a bit of time today starting work on that essay paper, okay?

Classroom Business! Don't forget that last Friday your team was still supposed to update your Project. The next time we work on it in class, we'll be selling it all off and writing our conclusions. Yup, another quiz today.

Classroom Management Students! Do we really begin our oral presentations next week?

Friday, November 3, 2006

Just a few quick reminders for today.

Classroom Management. Chapter 16 discussion & a bit of work on the Team Project.

Classroom Supervision. Unit Test (Ch's 7-12), as I mentioned in Wednesday's news & on the schedule. The essay discussion will be on Monday.

Classroom Business. Review of Unit Test. 2 videos. Chapter 9 quiz. Busy, eh?

Thursday, November 2, 2006

Classroom Management Students! I'm back at work this morning. So, we'll have class. Ex 16..1, p. 118, plus a discussion about Review Notes, plus Team Project activity.

Wednesday, November 1, 2006

Good grief, what happened last night? I felt so terrible that I gave away candy a fistful at a time, then turned the lights off and went to bed. I'm sick & I'm not meeting classes today (Wednesday).

WebCT Students. At least I finished updating and grading yesterday, so you're okay, eh?

Classroom Management Students (MWF). Today perhaps you can meet with your team and work on your project. On Friday we'll work with Chapter 16, but I'll use some of the time to talk more with you to help you work on it.

Classroom Supervision Students! I know, you're wondering about the Unit Test. We'll go ahead and take it on Friday and get it over with. The essay stuff we'll address next Monday as we continue the regular schedule. Since we knocked out the Classroom Projects we'll have time, eh?

Classroom Business Students! Yes, Quiz 9 on Friday. Then the Team Stock Market Project Update at the same session. Videos can resume on Monday. We'll be fine.

Friday, October 27, 2006

Detroit lost. It's raining. And Iran is making more enriched uranium. But life is good. Isn't it great to be an American?!

Student Aid/Loans! For courses that began on October 16th, today is the last date to become eligible by attending class. In WebCT that means sending me an email through WebCT letting me know that you can log in successfully. Easy, but 10% still don't do it. Strange.

Classroom Business Class! Today is Review Notes day! Monday is the Unit Test.

Classroom Management Class! Today is Team Project Day. Next week we cover Chapters 15 & 16.

Classroom Supervision Class! Today is the turn in for Project F. We'll work on Project G today and discuss the Essay due before Thanksgiving break.

Wednesday, October 25, 2006

Yup, as I predicted, the Cardinals won Tuesday night. And tonight the Tigers will win in St. Louis. And they'll win there again Thursday night. Then back to Detroit for the last game Saturday night.

WebCT Classes! Tomorrow late morning I'll be reviewing any emails you've sent. Friday this week, I've got to enter into the computer who has started the course (by sending me an email through WebCT) and who won't get their student aid/loan money.

Classroom Management Students! Note that in our last meeting together this week we'll be trying to complete the outline for the Team Project in class. I'll even show you how to write the contents at the session, so it might be a good idea to be there.

Classroom Business Students! Friday is Review Notes day! Monday is the next Unit Test!

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

So, Ruth & I got a call around 6pm yesterday evening from my sister in Minnesota. Her husband had a heart attack and was shipped to Rochester for treatment. And we threw some clothes into a suitcase and headed up there. Around 8:45pm we talked via cell phone to my sister as we approached within 30 miles of the hospital. He is stable and sleeping, and she's on her way home. So, what do I do. I turn the car around and head back to Cedar Rapids. Quite the night.

WebCT classes. I'm back at work. Our outgoing email was out for the entire weekend (strange). But I'm on it right now, okay?

Friday, October 20, 2006

Okay, the Cardinals won. So, what? I predicted the Mets, but I'm really a Twins fan, who has to root for Detroit in the series, since my guys are out.

Classroom Business Students! I'm messing with the schedule for November a bit. I see a week in there where we've got 3 quizzes scheduled. But maybe you want me to leave it?!

Thusday, October 19, 2006

Happy Birthday, Ruth!

All Students! Please do not forget the Disney event today at 11am. There's a sign in sheet at the entrance for you for your bonus points! (See the note below in Wednesday's notes!)

3rd note, Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Classroom Students who need to make up an exam (Business, Management, Supervision). You don't need to call me. You don't need an appointment. What you need is to come to the office (NH221) during my office hours and make up the exam! Just show up at the beginning of the office hour so you have enough time for the test, okay? The exception, of course, is tomorrow (Thursday) because we'll all be at the Disney presentation together, right?!

2nd note, Wednesday October 18, 2006

For 10 Bonus points! (No written report required!) A special note to ALL STUDENTS (Including WebCT!)!

Tomorrow (Thursday) at 11:00am Disney will have a special presentation for paid internships at Disney World (Orlando, Florida) at Iowa Hall 3rd floor Rooms C & D. It's a great recruiting presentation, EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED. It's also a useful way to see how Job Fairs work (we'll have a multi-company Job Fair Nov 14th), what they ask for and how to prepare.

I'll have a sign in sheet at the presentation. You can sign in for more than one of my courses. It's worth 10 bonus points for the course. No written report required.

7 Kirkwood students signed up for Disney this last year. Kirkwood is the only Iowa Community College where they recruit! It's paid. They have room and board. And you can get course credit. Hmmmm

And ... The Mets will be winning the next few days, and get prepared to be defeated by Detroit.

Please note that my Kirkwood outgoing email was down pretty much all day Tuesday. That held me up quite a bit in correspondence.

October WebCT Students! You need to email me WITHIN WebCT so I know you're in class and to get checked off for student aid/loans.

Classroom Supervision Students! We'll turn in Project E today and begin Project F. I'm getting tired of grading all the paperwork. Please advise.

Classroom Management Students! If you missed the Midterm Exam, you've got to stop by my office (NH221) during office hours to make it up ... soon!

Classroom Business Students! 2 videos today. and a Team Project Update. Better pick those stocks before class and/or bring your laptop!

Monday, October 16, 2006

Happy Birthday, Chris!

At least the Vikings didn't lose this weekend, eh? And at least the Detroit Tigers are in (too bad for the Twins).

Classroom Management Students! Midterm Exam! Come early - do well! Don't forget that the Review Notes cover every question, in sequence. Of course, you still need to first study them.

Classroom Supervision Students! Quiz 10 today. But we'll continue to work on scoring/interpreting the leadership instruments today, and hand them in on Wednesday, okay?

Classroom Business Students! Quiz 6 today. For Wednesday we have 2 videos, plus you need to be ready for your second Team Stock Project update! We're really moving along in this course, eh?

October starting WebCT Students! Looks like all the slots are filled. Today is the day! Let's roll!

Friday, October 13, 2006

Two games for Detroit, and one more today! It's payday, and life is good!

Classroom Management Students! The Hawks are going to win anyway this weekend, so make sure that you spend time together - not partying - but in a study group, getting ready for the monster Midterm Exam, okay?!

Classroom Supervision Students! Yup, I cleaned up the Course Schedule somewhat, so it's more clear what's going on each day of class. No letup though! Quiz 9 today!

Classroom Business Students! Quiz 5 today. But we sure did improve this time over the previous Unit Test!

WebCT Students starting October 16th! Yup, you can begin already! Note that students are screaming in line trying to get in. I'm glad for you that signed up early for your course! There are no more openings.

Wednesday, October 11, 2006

WebCT Students! Your homework, etc., was graded and your grades updated yesterday morning. Students with a beginning date of October 6th can begin today if you would like to. The new Supervision WebCT class beginning October 16th was a bit difficult for me to initiate because of my own silly errors, but it should be running yet today.

Classroom Management Students! The Midterm Exam is on the first class day next week. The Review Notes discussion on the marker board for bonus points will be yet this week, so get ready!

Classroom Supervision Class! Project D we'll complete today and turn in Friday. Project E we'll only begin today, complete on Friday and turn in on Monday. Quiz 9 is due on Friday.

Classroom Business Class! Unit 2 test on Chapters 1-4 is scheduled for today! Get there early for an early start, eh?! Quiz 5 on Friday!

Monday, October 9, 2006

The Vikings win. Chicago dominates. The Hawks are back to life. The Twins are out. Time to switch to the Detroit Tigers. I'm glad the Yankees are out. And time to go back to work.

Classroom Management Students! Time to get caught up! The Midterm Exam is next week, and those Review Notes are the key. But you've gotta' take them seriously, eh?

WebCT Students! Please welcome the new starters! They are welcome to begin the course early this afternoon, which is about a week before the regularly scheduled start.

Classroom Supervision Students! Ch 8 Quiz today. Plus, we'll start Project D. After so many "A's" on the first Unit Test, I no longer have much sympathy for you. The course is too easy.

Classroom Business Students! Hey, we're cruising. Review today. Second Unit Test Wednesday.

Tuesday, October 3, 2006

Okay, the Twins lost to Oakland today. But what an attempt at a comeback in the 9th inning! Different story tomorrow, eh?

WebCT Students! I've graded your stuff and updated your grades through this morning. Please review the email from me carefully about the testing procedures. The schedule for taking the test is flexible, okay?

October WebCT New Starters! You can begin your course early - as soon as this Friday! Let's get an early start!

Classroom Supervision Students! Unit Test tomorrow! Get to class early for an early start, okay? Study the Review Notes!

Classroom Business Students! Pick your stock trades and bring them to class tomorrow, okay? We'll be updating our Team Project. Quiz 4 on Friday.

Classroom Management Students! Wednesday morning our teams will complete the Orgn Chart (Chaos Corp) for extra credit points. Plus, I have a video about getting organized for the future. This should be a good one for a lot of us still living in the past, eh? Or for some of us who can't seem to see beyond the next 10 minutes.

Monday, October 2, 2006

I'm back to work. While I was ill, the Twins lost twice, the Hawks lost, & the Vikings lost. I returned to health just in time for Detroit to lose so the Twins could win the division title. Does that make me a hero?

All Students! Please review my notes below from Friday for any updates, ok?

Friday, September 29, 2006

All Classroom Students! I'm home sick today! I think I ate too many of Jerry Fottrals' green apples.

Friday Classroom Management Students! We'll work on the Chaos Corp on Monday.

Friday Supervision Students! Review (and turn in Proj C) will be Monday. Test on Wednesday.

Business Students! Cases (Case 4, Ch's 3 & 4) due Monday. Quiz Ch 3 due Monday. We'll discuss our progress then, ok?

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

Ya', I know. Long time, no see. Like, anybody is really interested in what's going on anyway, eh? The Hawks won. The Vikings lost. The Twins are in. What else matters?

All Classroom Students! Some folks have a mistaken idea that for quizzes that are graded in class, that they can bring the quizzes in late if they have a good excuse for being absent. Please check the syllabus. We made a deal. After the quizzes are graded in class, it's too late! Everybody's got the answers. If you're going to be absent, get the quiz in to me ahead of time, in my mailbox in NH203 or by email.

Classroom Business Students! I'm still playing with that course schedule online. I need to stick in there the dates for the Stock Market Project updates. Tomorrow, we'll watch 2 videos and discuss more on Chapter 2, since Jeff didn't feel inclined to lecture that much.

Classroom Supervision Students! Wednesday's class will be committed to getting  Project C completed. We'll turn it in on Friday, so you can clean up anything you need to after class Wednesday. Then, on Friday, we'll be reviewing for our first Unit Test on Chapters 1-6. Please make sure that the copy of the Review Notes, which you printed from the Internet, you've got marked the page and paragraph numbers for each item. It'll be worth bonus points during the review session. Lazy people should at least bring a pencil and take notes on Friday.

Classroom Management Students! Get a jump start in the Exercise Manual in Chapter 11 with the Chaos Corp! We won't be writing in the rationale columns, but we will use our Project Teams to redraw the organization charts. Bonus points for the best ones. We'll figure that part out in class, eh?

WebCT Students! It's getting to be exam time for both courses. Please make sure you've studied your Review Notes before taking the exams. The Review Notes cover each question in sequence on the exams.

Thursday, September 21, 2006

How long can Detroit hold off our Twins?!

Classroom Management Students! Chapter 7 cases are due Thurs/Fri. Then, we skip Ch 8 and go on to Chapter 9 next week. Please remember to look up the Review Notes for Ch's 5 & 7 for discussion in class!

Intro to Business Class! Ya, I know. Too much talking these last few days. Lots of videos Friday (Case #3, Ch's 1 & 2). Quiz Ch 2 on Monday. Friday we'll mess with the project some more also.

WebCT classes. As you get ready for the big exams, please don't forget to study the Review Notes, which cover each question in sequence.

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Great weekend! The Vikings won. The Hawks won. Even the Twins won. I gained 2 pounds over the weekend (oh, oh).

Classroom Management Class! Note that I revised the schedule somewhat to accommodate what had been the missing week in October.

WebCT Students! Yup. We're updated again today. Most of us are making great progress. Of course, the real test will be exam time. Let's go!

Business Students! Don't forget to bring with you to class tomorrow your stock selections! You should have the company name and their stock symbol and a Wednesday price quote. Your team can decide how many shares to purchase, etc. during class on Wednesday, ok? Don't forget that we're grading Quiz Chapter 1 also on Wednesday.

Classroom Supervision Students! Don't forget to bring Quiz 5 with you to class Wednesday for grading. And we'll begin Project C.

Friday, September 15, 2006

It's payday! And at this point it's only 26 hours till kickoff (11am Saturday)!

Russia Trip! The schedule currently looks like March 23 - April 1, 2007. $1000 plus $300 tuition (for a 3-credit course) should do it. Looks so far like St. Petersburg and Moscow. Wanna' come along? Got a passport yet?

WebCT Students! I've been checking your emails for questions and replying to them. However, after grading Tuesday, there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of stuff on the Discussion Board to review. Maybe I'll do it anyway this weekend.

Classroom Business Students! Don't forget that today (Friday) we'll be taking our first Unit Test (Ch's 19-22). The Review Notes cover every question!

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

WebCT Management and Supervision Students! I'm trying! But WebCT is acting rather sickly today. It seems to take forever to move from one page to the next on the system. I know they're working on it, but I had set aside some hours this morning to get caught up on grading, and now WebCT is in the repair shop. Oh, well.

Classroom Management Students! Still a problem with students NOT bothering to get their quizzes online done (through Chapter 5 this week) and/or the written articles (Ch 5 due Thurs/Fri).

Classroom Supervision Students! Wednesday we're getting the Project B stuff done. If you missed getting put into a group, I'll put you in one. But make sure you first review the assignment on the Internet, eh?

Classroom Business Students! Wednesday we'll be working on the Team Project, particularly an overview, then writing the Intro, then the process of picking stocks.

Thursday, September 7, 2006

Classroom Management Students! This week we should get through Chapter 4, which means that the Ch 2 & 4 quizzes & cases should be turned in on Thurs/Fri. We'll also be spending a bit more time getting the Teams started on the project. I have some handouts to help you along the way.

Classroom Business Students! I'm a bit dismayed with the handful of students that continue to be not prepared for the quiz grading in class! Maybe it would be helpful to print several quizzes in advance, so that you won't be caught without a copy when you have time to answer the questions. Quiz Chapter 22 is already due this Friday.

Principles of Supervision Students! Quiz Chapter 3 is due Friday. Plus, we'll turn in Project A. Plus we'll begin Project B. Wow.

WebCT Students! This morning I updated both the Intro to Management and Supervision courses as far as the emails are concerned, and checking for any more new students that started, so they can get their student aid. The Discussion Board for Management I graded, while the one for Supervision I'll likely hit tomorrow.

Tuesday, September 5, 2006

Classroom Supervision Students! Make sure your Project A agenda is ready for class Wednesday. We'll get the short meetings done and turn them in Friday. Friday we'll begin Project B. Quiz 3 is due Friday.

Classroom Business Students! Wednesday is Quiz 21. Friday is Quiz 22. Videos on each day. Case #1 is due Wednesday. Case #2 is due next Monday. We'll be selecting Project Teams this week.

Classroom Management Students! On Tues/Wed, Case Chapter #1 is still due (i.e. not late). On Thurs/Fri the cases for Ch's 2 & 4 are due, as well as the quizzes. On Tues/Wed we'll continue discussion on Ch 2 & begin discussion on the Team Project and select Teams.

Thursday, August 31, 2006

Classroom Management Students! Yup, I'm back at the office today. Your first Case Study is due. And for the MWF 8:00am students - your fist Case is due tomorrow also. And we should be able to get into that Exercise Manual set of exercises for Ch 2 as well. Then, a 3-day weekend, eh?

Classroom Supervision Students! Of course, we won't be able to complete Project A on Friday. But we'll get started into it, okay?

Classroom Business Students! Case # 1 will be due next Wednesday, to allow for the video we'll show this Friday. Quiz for Ch 20 on Friday also!!!!!!

Wednesday, August 30, 2006

All Students! Well, I complained about a headache yesterday, didn't I? And today, I've run out of gas, and I'm staying home. No class today. Ya', I know, you're all sad about it. -Clay

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

All Students! Here's a great opportunity! Want to travel with us to Russia next Spring, March 22-  Apr 5?  ... for 3 credits? ... and skip class with Kirkwood's blessing? Darrel and I are taking a group of students to the Moscow area to visit a branch of Moscow State University. The course will likely be a Marketing: International Perspectives course. The opening price per student is $2500, but if things all go our way, we might be able to work it down to about half of that! I'm taking names!

WebCT Mgt and Supv Students! I updated your scores for the Discussion Board again today, plus answered a jillial emails. So much to do, so little time, eh?!

Monday, August 28, 2006

Classroom Supervision and Business Students! Today we'll be grading that first Quiz! If you didn't get it printed at home, better get it printed in a Kirkwood lab and get those questions answered before class, eh?!

Classroom Management Students! First Cases will be due this Thursday/Friday1 We'll likely be started into Chapter 2 at the end o the week also, since we have another holiday Monday.

WebCT Management Students! I reviewed the quiz items through Chapter 9 this weekend to fix any errors. I hope I'm now far enough ahead of you, so I don't have to reset any more of your quiz scores.

Friday, August 25,ll 2006

MWF Classroom Classes! We didn't get a full 3 hours of class for this week. And we'll miss another hour when Labor Day weekend comes around. That's nice for a personal break. But it also means less class time to go over material. Please watch the Course Schedule to keep up the pace, okay?

Thursday, August 24, 2006

TR 12:00 High Noon Management Class! Don't forget that Ex 1.3 in the Exercise Manual is due today. You don't have to have it scored though.

ATAW WebCT Students! Beware! I'm grading today! (I'll check again tomorrow)

Wednesday, August 23, 2006

Intro to Business Students! Class on Wednesday (and on Monday and Friday) will be in Linn Hall 110. There weren't enough chairs in NH223 to accommodate the class.

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

First Day of Class!

All Students! Well, if you're reading this note, it means you've successfully found my home page. And, you're likely enrolled in one of the courses I'm teaching this semester. Welcome aboard! You'll note that pretty much all of the course directions can be found online, which means that you are able to dig in and get started right away. Additionally, if you review the Course Schedule, you don't need to call me on the phone to say,  "I wasn't in class. Did I miss anything?"

Saturday, August 12, 2006

ATAW WebCT Students! All the term papers and Discussion Board and quizzes and Bonus points are graded and entered. Your final grades have been calculated and reported. And if the Enrollment Services portion of Kirkwood's software system works on Saturdays, then your final grades should already appear on your transcripts. Wow, how's that for technology!?

For new students beginning August 22, I'll be providing access to your course probably on Wednesday next week, which should allow you a few days early start if you'd like. Please note also that you should quickly get your books purchased so that you don't fall behind schedule waiting for the mail deliver of your reading materials. All the book info, etc. has been mailed to the address you provided Enrollment Services. For some, that means your parents' address. So, you might need to check with them to see whether something came for you from Kirkwood, eh?

Friday, August 11, 2006

ATAW WebCT Students! Today is the last day of class! During the day I'll be grading papers, scoring Discussion Board items, and waiting until after midnight to enter final grades. I'm watching many, many term papers roll in, even though I graded nearly 30 of them yesterday! Don't forget the Final Exam, too! Then let's go get some sun, eh?
