ASL-271 American Sign Language IV

Course Competencies: 

Demonstrate proficiency in ASL through the medium of storytelling.

Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting ASL into English.

nderstand Deaf Culture more fully by studying the language in its different mediums.

Share in the Deaf Experience through accomplished Deaf Artists.

Student will demonstrate understanding of text by completing comprehension questions.  Scores will not be included in the final grade.  Student scores will be written down in the grade book only as a monitoring tool to track class progress.  Each week a quiz will be given to test student comprehension of that week’s material.  Also, the three written tests will be on the cultural material contained in the literary questions as well as the content covered by the comprehension checks.

Students will demonstrate understanding of Deaf cultural content by completing Literary questions.  Class discussions will be based upon the material and issues presented by these questions.  Therefore, literary questions must be completed before class time.

Students will demonstrate understanding of ASL used in the poetic genre by completing assignments.

Students will demonstrate their ability to extract cultural meaning from a text through exams in relation to the text.
