Additional Resources:

Videotapes in 7B to view and practice interpreting (ask instructor for list)

Course Requirements:

There will be a final simultaneous interpreting videotaping. The videotaping will be on the last day of class. Students will not receive the text before the test day.
Student will videotape each week’s lesson due for reviewing in class. If the Student does not bring their tape, 3 pts. will be deducted from their total grade points for the semester.
Other assignments: Students contract for an interpreting grade. Four (4) videotaped texts are due during the semester; two (2) in American Sign Language and two (2) in Transliterating, in that order. The ASL videotapes are due week 8 and 10. The transliteration videotapes are due week 14 and 16. Students will supply additional videotape for instructor evaluation if needed. Audiotaped texts will be supplied by the Instructor for practice.
If student does not achieve grade level for which they have contracted, they will receive an "F" for that part of the course. Therefore, it is very important that student seeks opportunity for instructor feedback outside of class.
Each videotaped text will be graded and a percent of the points possible will be calculated. If the student has obtained a minimum of 70% of the possible points, he/she has passed that portion of the contract (70% would be a "-" grade). Student is allowed to videotape a text and review their performance with the instructor for feedback. Student is then allowed to retape the text before handing it in for a final grade.  It is therefore very important that the student does not wait until the last moment to complete the assignments in order to have an opportunity to improve their performance to the contracted level expectations. Again, if student does not achieve grade level for which they have contracted, they will receive an "F" for that part of the course.
The audiotaped voicing projects are due the 10th, 12th, 14th and 16th weeks on the day of class. Voicing assignments will be given out in class. Videotape of signers will be on reserve in the Library for students’ use. Students will supply their own audiotape.
Quizzes may be given at the Instructor’s discretion. Instructor will decide if credit will be given or not. If credit is given, the points will be added in to the grade at the end of the semester.

   Grading:

Videotaped Interpreting lectures 70 pts. each
Videotaped Transliterating lectures 65 pts. each
Audiotaped voicing 55 pts. each
Final Test:  videotaped 65 pts.
120 wpm - A
"+" = 90% correct
100 wpm - B
grade = 80% correct
"-" = 70 % correct
Final videotaped exam may be in ASL or CASE - student choice
Only 100 wpm and 120 wpm will be offered for the final test.

"Sanity Check"

Each videotaped evaluation includes a "sanity check." This means that after each videotape is evaluated, the Instructor steps back and checks if the grade just given actually reflects the overall performance of the student. This is reflected in the category "Overall performance is good."
