Oral Interpreting - Objectives:

*        to develop comfort using this particular mode of communication

*        to develop English oral interpreting mouth movements

*        to differentiate between ASL mouth movements and oral interpreting mouth movements

*        to differentiate between transliterating mouth movements and Oral interpreting mouth movements

*        to differentiate between educational backgrounds of manual deaf client and the oral deaf client.

*        to develop sensitivity to oral deaf cultural perspective

*        assess communication needs for oral deaf client

*        make ethical decisions in oral interpreting situations

*        oral interpret successfully by:

Þ    using clear articulation

Þ    modifying rate of speech

Þ    using facial expression

Þ    using natural pauses

Þ    substituting synonyms

Þ    clarifying words

Þ    rearranging difficult sentences

Þ    using natural gestures

Þ    using natural body movements

*        assess environmental factors such as:

Þ    lighting

Þ    distance

Þ    noise

Þ    sight-line

Þ    background

Þ    movement

              Written test - 49 pts.
